Traditional Greek Hospitality
On my farm in Ancient Olympia, from which my grandparents made their living and today is the basis of my own agricultural activities, is where you will enjoy Greek hospitality.
You will walk into our cool and refreshing garden with trees and vegetables.
I will guide you through my private collection, where I will show you the secrets of honey production and other agricultural products from both past and present.
Finally, you will taste the products of my little farm and traditional sweets with honey from my bees which, with the help of my mother, will be prepared in front of you.
Klio the beekeeper
Your visit to our farm will offer you Greek hospitality; a cool and refreshing break from the modern village of Olympia and off-the-beaten track into a garden filled with fruit trees and vegetables.
Under the shade, discover the secrets of the traditional crops and productions as we chat about life on a small farm both in past and present day Greece. Try the fruit platter always in season accompanied by fresh juice and coffee.
Sample the variety of spoon sweets and jams made from the fruit on the farm and preserved by the housekeepers as an age old tradition; recipes which have been passed on from mother to daughter for centuries.
Top off your visit with “diples”, a traditional sweet with honey. Mrs Roula, herself, will prepare them before you as she unfolds the dough and the secrets of this mouth-watering dessert.
Our collection of old and new tools, especially beekeeping and other rural activities, are housed in a building about a hundred years old, once used for the supplementary work of the farm.
The fact that my family, alongside other agricultural activities, were beekeepers from way back when, has allowed me to have this wonderful collection of tools and instruments. Through this presentation, you will be introduced to the life of bees from ancient times until today.
The relationship between man and the honeybee will be discussed and how it has changed through time. Learn about the impressive bee colonies which work together in order to create this wonderful product, honey, along with other valuable products they offer us.
Honey and bee products which have followed man through history have been and are used for nutrition, medicine and cosmetics. Discover how the beehive produces royal jelly, wax and venom. Also, how the bee collects nectar, pollen and propolis.
In our small showroom you will find and taste products derived from the beehive and our land, produced and packaged by us in the age-old traditional, homemade, way.
